Nestled amongst the dense urban fabric of Island West, the boutique sized hotel / serviced apartment building stands out from its neighbors with expressive geometry, elaborated details, distinctive palette and astonishing lighting drama. More than merely an architectural articulation exercise, the architect regards the project as an urban renewal process to inject new energy to the neighborhood.
The architect believes that lighting plays an important role in rendering the material form of architecture. The correlation between lighting and physical properties of materials has been the driving idea behind the design.
Through the manipulation of light and shadow, texture and shades, illumination and reflection, the building gains an additional dimension of ephemeral and ever-changing qualities. The design presents an otherwise typical building form as a dynamic architectonic sculpture, with appearance of which varies with viewpoints and surrounding ambience. "
